Dear Band Parents—

 

Here’s what happening this month and beyond:

 

1.     If you are new to this program and are receiving this newsletter for the first time, welcome!!  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. 

 

2.     The Band Handbook and Marching Band information packet, which includes our football and competition schedule for the 2017 season, are now available on our website. 

 

 

3.     Please note the following possible changes to the schedule listed in the Marching Band packet:

 

·         The Post Band Camp Rehearsals will be held on August 1 & 2 (Tuesday and Wednesday) from 6:00pm-8:30pm, at JCHS.  This change was necessary due to the 9th Grade Orientation that will take place on August 3rd. 

·         The Fulton County Marching Band Exhibition date is finalized and it will take place on September 23, the date listed in the band packet.  

·         The November 4 football game is scheduled on the same day as our final marching contest.  This is not a conflict, as we can participate in the contest, then travel to the game.  There is also a chance that the game could be on Friday, November 3.  So, keep that date open as well

 

 

4.     The fee schedules for Marching Band, Color Guard and Band class, known as Operational Enhancement Obligation (OEOs), for the 2017-18 season are now available.  They are located on the band website on the following links:

·         For Marching Band and Color Guard, there are two separate payment options.

·         Even If you are in band class only, you are still required to pay OEOs, although it is not as much as marching and guard.  This payment is due by Thursday, August 10, 2017.

5.     The first OEO payment for Marching Band was due on Tuesday, April 25 and the first OEO payment for Color Guard was due on Monday, May 8.  If you have not made payment, do so as soon as possible. 

 

·         Please make your checks payable to JCHSBBA and place it in the lock box in the band room.  

·         If you are a rising ninth grader you can mail it to JCHSBBA Treasurer, P.O. Box 5341, Alpharetta, GA 30023-5341.

·         The OEOs can also be paid with PayPal.  See PayPal instructions included with this newsletter.

 

6.     The Band Commitment Form (BCF) was due from all returning band students and rising ninth band students on Tuesday, April 25.  If you have not turned it in, do so as soon as possible.  This form can be found on the website though this link:

·         The BCF must be filled out in pen and must be LEGIBLE.  (Maybe type it?).

·         The BCF is important because it because it lets us know the number of students in the program for planning purposes.  It gives us contact information so we can keep the members informed of what is going on with the band.

 

7.     The Permission slip/ Release was due on Tuesday, April 25.  A copy of your insurance card, front and back, must be included.  If you have not turned in it in, do so as soon as possible. 8.     Finals take place on May 23, 24 and 25.  These are half days,

 

9.     If you have selected the five-installment payment option, the second Marching Band and Guard payment is due on May 25.  Please pay by check or PayPal as discussed in Paragraph 5 above.

 

10.  The last day of school is May 25. Graduation takes place that evening. Wind ensemble and selected members of Symphonic band play.  See Mr. Estep for details. 

 

11.  Congratulations to our seniors and good luck in your future adventures.   We appreciate all your efforts while you were with us which made our program special.  We also want to greatly thank the senior parents who volunteered tirelessly to support their children and this program.  

 

12.  If you are graduating or not returning to the band program next year, consider donating your concert uniform for future generations of band students.  See Theresa Sloman for further details at jchsbba.prez@gmail.com

 

13.  Students who participate in marching band and color guard need to go for a physical and submit it by June 25. 

 

·         The physical is good for one year. 

·         Any student who participates in two marching band seasons can waive the Personal Fitness requirement.  This allows the student the opportunity to take another semester class of their choosing

14.  Thanks to Mr. Estep and Ms. Dickens for making the 2016-17 program a success!  Let’s also thanks the officers of the JCHSBBA board in their effort to keep everything going smoothly.

 

15.  A special thanks to our outgoing Vice President, Gregg Blotner, for all his hard work over his years with the band!!

 

16.  A reminder that the JCHSBBA Board members for the 2017-18 school year will be Theresa Sloman, President, Gabby Mills, Vice President, Elise Hutchins, Treasurer, Christie Culver, Fundraising Treasurer, and Debbie Kellermeyer, Secretary.

Dear Band Parents—

 

Here’s what happening during the beginning of this month and beyond:

 

  1. Thank you to all the parents and students who attended our general information meetings last month.  We hope you found the meeting informative and that you are excited about next year’s season.  We cannot have a band program without the interest and participation of parents.

 

  1. If you are new to this program and are receiving this newsletter for the first time, welcome!!  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!!

 

  1. Thank you Gabby Mills and Debbie Kellermeyer!! They have agreed to be our new Board Vice-President and Secretary, respectively.

 

  1. Congratulations to the following band students who were recognized at JCHS Honors Night for their band, musical and school spirit accomplishments:  Senator Greene:  Most School Spirit; Soren Allen and Elizabeth Maksimik, Semper Fidelis award sponsored by the Marines, Brennan Blotner, Coca Color Fine Arts award and Lucas Williams, Governors Honors Program for music.

 

  1. Congratulations to band students Emma Grace Crumbley and Brennan Blotner.   Emma Grace won a Shuler for her portrayal of the wicked stepmother in Cinderella.  Brennan Blotner won a Shuler on behalf of the pit orchestra.

  1. Color Guard Auditions for the 2017-18 season continue this week on Monday, May 1 and ThursdayMay 4from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. The tryouts are on Friday, May 5.  See Ms. Dickens for further details. T

 

  • The first OEO payment for Color Guard is due on Friday, May 8.
  • Follow the payment instructions contained in Paragraph 8 above.

 

  1. AP Exams take place from Monday, May 1 through Thursday, May 13.

 

  1. End of course tests continue through Thursday, May 4.

 

  1. There will be a performance by the Jazz Band at the Newtown Senior Center on Thursday, May 4 at 6:00 pm.  See Mr. Estep for details.

 

  1. The Band awards banquet will take place on May 12starting at 6:30 pm.  It will be held at The Perimeter Church, Johns Creek, 30022. Tickets can be purchased for $25.00

 

  • if you want to attend the band banquet in May, you must have paid all OEOs for the past year and other band expenses.  If you need further details, contact Elise Hutchins at jchsbba.treasurer@gmail.com

 

  1. On Saturday, May 13, the Jazz and Percussion ensembles will be in concert at the North Point Mall near the Von Maur store.  The concert starts at 1:00 pmSee Mr. Estep for more details

  1. Be sure to check out the JCHS Orchestra concert on Tuesday, April 25 starting at 7:00 PM in which several of our band students perform

 

  1. Dress rehearsal for the band Spring concert will take place on Wednesday, April 26.  The schedule is as follows:

 

  • Wind Ensemble: 3:45pm – 4:50pm
  • Symphonic Band: 4:50pm – 6:00pm

 

  1. The Spring band concert will take place on Thursday, April 27.

 

  • Wind ensemble students must report to the band room at 6:15 pm to practice with the eighth graders.  THIS IS A CHANGE IN NORMAL ROUTINE
  • Symphonic band students must report to the band room at 6:30pm.
  • The concert starts at 7:00pm. This our last chance to see our fabulous seniors perform!!

  1. There will be adessert reception following the concert in the auditorium lobby.  Thank you, Stephanie Greene, for agreeing to be our reception coordinator!

Johns Creek High School Band Program Newsletter—April 16, 2017

Dear Band Parents—

Here’s what happening this week and beyond. There are also numerous documents enclosed with this newsletter.

1. The Drum Major audition clinic for the 2017-18 season take place from Monday, April 17 until Friday, April 21 from 4:00 to 5:00pm. See Mr. Estep for details.

2. Individual interviews for other leadership positions will also be conducted. Students must sign up for a time shot. Please see Mr. Estep for details.

3. The percussion clinic for the 2017-18 season will take place on four consecutive Mondays—April 17, April 24, May 1 and May 8—from 4:30 to 6:28pm. See Mr. Estep for details.

4. Color Guard Auditions for the 2017-18 season will consist of mandatory clinics followed by tryout day. Girls should wear t-shirts and shorts and athletic closed-toed shoes/tennis shoes. Details on fees and the schedule will be handed out at tryouts.

· All times 6-9 PM. Meet in the band room at JCHS.
· Clinics: Monday 4/17, Thursday 4/20, Monday 4/24, Monday 5/1, and Thursday 5/4
· Tryouts Friday 5/5

5. There will be a meeting for rising ninth grade parents and students on Wednesday, April 19 in the band room at 7:00pm. Information regarding the band program and the 2017-18 season will be discussed. If you know any students who will be in our program next year, be sure they are aware of this meeting!!

Congratulations to all the band students who participated in the production of Cinderella, which has been nominated for 11 Shuler awards, including Overall Production nominee and Ensemble nominee. Special congratulations to band student Emma Grace Crumbley who received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress, band student Brennan Blotner who received a nomination on behalf of the Orchestra, and band student Sydney Leffler who received Honorable Mention for technical execution.

17. Congratulations to Lucas Williams who was accepted in the Governor’s Honor Program this summer.
